The event is returning Friday for three days at the J.L. Lester Wildlife Management Area near Cedartown. This is the second year that the local WMA has hosted what is being billed as a family-friendly activity.
“We’ll open with registration Friday and expect to be done around 1 p.m. Sunday, so we can have the award presentations,” said Tom Watson, president of Seven Hills Archery club in Rome. The Rome club is the host organization for this IBO event.
The inaugural event last year had competitors representing 36 states and at least four foreign countries, Watson said.
The J.L. Lester WMA is located at 2568 Antioch Road, about four miles southeast of Cedartown. Watson said the wildlife management area, which covers more than 500 acres, was a perfect venue for the event.
Archers shoot at three-dimensional targets made to look like bears, deer and other wildlife. The wooded area of the WMA allows some targets to be partially concealed.
Watson said there’s room in the event for archers of all skill levels. He said they’d love to see more local people come out and sign up and try their hand at an IBO event.
