Court in Superior Court Judge Michael Murphy's courtroom ended early Monday with criminal cases tentatively set to begin Wednesday morning, according to court officials.
Today was spent wrapping up civil cases with Murphy set to take any pleadings this afternoon. All court business was wrapped up by 2:30 p.m.
It is uncertain exactly which cases will be heard in court Wednesday because any number of them can entertain plea agreements or continuances between now and then, according to court officials.
A child molestation case originally on the court calender could be one of those going to trial. Keith Boyd McGee, 48, of Felton, was arrested March 4 after a 2004 case was reopened.
McGee is charged with child molestation, cruelty to children and aggravated sodomy related to an alleged molestation occurring in a Cedartown home May 14, 2004, according to police reports.
Reports state the victim knew the alleged perpetrator.
However, the sentencing of a Cedartown teen convicted in October of kidnapping and armed robbery will go on as scheduled Tuesday morning. That will take place in Superior Court Judge Richard Sutton's courtroom, according to officials.
Frank James Hawkins Jr., of 939 Cleo St., Cedartown was 17 at the time of the incident last April. He was found guilty on four of the six charges against him including kidnapping, aggravated assault, armed robbery and possession of a firearm in the commission of a crime.
According to the initial investigation, Hawkins was a passenger in the female victim's vehicle. The victim, whose name is being withheld in keeping with The Cedartown Standard's policy in sexual assault cases, said Hawkins threatened her at gunpoint and forced her to drive to a local bank. She was then forced to withdraw money from her checking account through the automated teller machine, still at gunpoint, police said.
Statements from the victim are that Hawkins then forced her to drive him to another location in Cedartown where he exited the vehicle.
The woman was shot in the leg at some point during this incident and was treated at Floyd Medical Center (FMC), reports said.
Hawkins was arrested the next morning.
