Jean Laltrello, chair of the Polk County Tourism Committee, was killed Friday morning in an auto accident in Villa Rica.

Laltrello, 70, had been a champion of Polk County tourism efforts for years, working with local officials to promote the county's attractions. Most recently, she was instrumental in the planning and development of Rockmart's Welshfest, serving as co-chair of the event. That event is scheduled for tomorrow.

Polk County Commission Chair Jason Ward said he was shocked and saddened to hear the news of Laltrello's passing.

"Jean was a wonderful person who worked tirelessly for the Polk County Tourism Board and local historical associations to promote Polk County. I spoke with her last night about the Welshfest event tomorrow and the Tourism Board meeting next Tuesday." Ward said. "She was excited and energetic as always to find ways to make her community a better place to live. Polk County will sorely miss her leadership and energy. My thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends."

She was a lady who brought class to our tiny town in a big way.Someone who worked hard to make things better for the whole community. We were not close friends but I have kept up with the things she was involved in as volunteer and when ever a need was put forward her name was always in the mix.My best thoughts and deepest sympathy go out to her family.
