A prominent Cedartown dentist accused of child pornography pleaded not guilty to charges this week.

Dr. Gerald Palatini, 55, of 87 Club View Drive, Cedartown, issued his plea in a waiver through his attorney. An attorney sends a waiver plea to the court so a client doesn’t have to make a court appearance to state his plea in an arraignment hearing.

Palatini was arrested in April 2009 in a sting targeting child predators. He was charged with five counts of sexual exploitation of a minor.

Palatini was released on a property bond shortly after his arrest and has been out on bond ever since his arrest.

He had another skirmish with the law last April when he was charged with a felony count of false statements and writings in matters within jurisdiction of state, according to a Floyd County Jail report.

According to reports, Palatini allegedly made false statements after he completed a U.S. Department of Justice firearms transaction record and answered “no” to a question of whether or not he was under indictment for a felony, intentionally concealing that fact. Palatini was released from the Floyd County Jail, April 28, on a $2,700 bond.
