A Carrollton man died this morning in an Atlanta hospital from injuries sustained in an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) accident in Rockmart on May 28, according to local officials.

Assistant Coroner Tony Brazier said he was notified that Brian Leon Blackmon, 41, of Carrollton died at Atlanta Medical Center at 1:45 a.m.

He had sustained significant head injuries in the accident and was airlifted to Atlanta Medical Center in coordination with Redmond EMS on the scene, according to the Georgia State Patrol (GSP) and Brazier.

GSP reports state Blackmon had been riding a four-wheeler, a Kawasaki KTX 400, on Browning road west of Pleasant Hill Road Saturday, May 28, when a dog ran out in front of him.

Blackmon hit the dog, which caused him to lose control of the ATV. He went into a ditch where the vehicle flipped and ejected Blackmon, reports state.

No other vehicles were involved.
