On Sunday, June 28, Cedartown police officers responded to the Wal-Mart parking lot in reference to a theft of an automobile.
The complainant advised that she parked her 2008 orange Kia Rio in the lower section of the parking lot on row four.
The complainant reported that she was in the store for only “20 to 25 minutes.”
When she returned to the lot, she noticed that her vehicle was missing.
The complainant told police that she was up to date on all of her payments.
Officers on the scene viewed the surveillance camera and saw a full size white truck pulling what appeared to be a gold vehicle in the area where the complainant parked.
According to reports, the video was blurry and the make and color of the vehicle was not clear.
Later that night, reports came in to Polk County 911 about a vehicle fire on Fish Creek Road.
The car was located on a gravel access drive off of Fish Creek Road, about 50 yards north of Stu-art Road. The vehicle was found at the edge of a woodline.
Numerous tire tracks and footprints were also found on the scene.
Officers were able to collect a Kia emblem off of the car, but otherwise reported that the car was burned “extensively.”
A vehicle identification number could not be located.
Police did find what appeared to be orange colored paint in a crease on the driver’s side rear door.
