Cedartown police investigated a burglary at a residence on West Fairmount Avenue on May 8.

The victim told police she had been staying with her daughter for the last two months after having shoulder surgery, reports said. A friend contacted her on May 8 to alert her that the front door to her house was standing open, according to reports.

On the scene, police walked through the house with the victim and found many of the rooms in various states of disarray, reports said.

Police determined the suspect made entry through a window loacted on the east side of the residence. The window had pry marks on the bottom portion of the window frame, reports said.

Police dusted several items in the house for latent prints. Reports said the officer obtained partial prints from a couple of items.

Neighbors in the area told police they have not seen anything unusual. One neighbor said she checks the victim’s mail everyday, and has not noticed the front door standing open prior to May 8.

Stolen in the incident were two large solid gold coins, various pieces of jewelry and approximately $1,000 in quarters the victim had been saving for many years.
