ATLANTA — The Atlanta Braves purchased the contract of starting pitcher Ben Sheets and optioned Randall Delgado to Triple-A Gwinnett on Sunday.

Sheets, a former Milwaukee ace, pitched his first game in the majors since he played his only season for Oakland in 2010.

Manager Fredi Gonzalez said Delgado will be recalled Saturday to start one of the Braves' doubleheader games at Washington.

Shortstop Paul Janish, acquired in a trade the previous day with Cincinnati, was in the lineup batting eighth. Janish has spent the entire season play for the Reds' Triple-A affiliate in Louisville.

To make room for Janish, Atlanta placed shortstop Jack Wilson on the 15-day disabled list with a dislocated joint in his right pinky.
