Berry College communication students recently took first place in the college category of the Rome International Film Festival.

The film, entitled “Trapped” was a class project in instructor Curt Hersey’s narrative video production class and won in the college category. Produced by recent graduates Katie Keegan, David Reeves, Hannah Watwood and senior Brittany Page (of Brooklet, Ga.), the film depicts the story of two people trying to escape the life they have been given – to no avail. The script was written by Berry graduate Kat Higgins-Thomas and stars Holly Thomas, a senior theater major, and recent graduate Jon Gill.

“Lost Shoe Diaries,” a 30-minute film produced by Berry Middle School students, was also screened during the festival, but could not compete because of time limit restrictions.

This is the first year the film festival has hosted a student film competition, which included categories for middle school, high school and college films. The National Creativity Society gave cash prizes of $250 to the winners in each category.
