In Afghanistan, hundreds of soldiers from the 3rd Combat Aviation Brigade attended a memorial service Friday the Black Hawk helicopter crew. Maj. Gen. Robert A. Abrams, the Savannah-based brigade's commanding general, said on Twitter the soldiers were "America's finest who made everyone around them better."
The helicopter crashed Monday in Kandahar Province during what Army officials say was a routine training mission using night-vision goggles. The cause is under investigation.
Names of the five soldiers killed have not been released.
Capt. Romeo Axalan, a chaplain at Hunter Army Airfield, says the Army has been counseling families and soldiers during a "devastating" week.
