Commander Bill Shaw and Adjutant Robert Davis of the American Legion Post 86 in Cedartown recently presented a $1600 scholarship from the Legion to Georgia Northwestern Technical College (GNTC) Office of Adult Education.

Currently, the testing fee is $160 for the complete battery with a retesting fee of $32 Due to the high unemployment in Polk County, many who master the skills needed for GED test do not have the money to pay the fee.

This scholarship makes it possible for 10 students that cannot afford the fee a chance to earn a GED diploma. GED diplomas give individuals greater opportunity for employment and allow them to apply to post-secondary programs or enlist in the military.
