A Floyd County man accused of kidnapping a little girl from her Hosea Street home and taking her across county lines and into Rockmart has been formally charged with a host of charges in Polk County including rape and aggravated child molestation.

James Davenport Ferrell, 33, of 2004 Flannery St., was charged with burglary and kidnapping when police say he took a 7-year-old girl from her bedroom on Oct. 12.

According to Polk County detective Brandy Brady, Ferrell has been charged with aggravated child molestation, enticing a child for indecent purposes, child molestation, rape, kidnapping and cruelty to children in the first degree. All of the charges are felonies, Brady said.

Ferrell is currently being housed in the Floyd County jail.

“Before he is every released from jail he would have to come down here and face these charges,” Brady said.

No court date has been set for Ferrell in either Polk or Floyd County.
